Shortening Taplio's TTV to <1m

Challenge

Taplio needed to optimize their onboarding flow without wasting months of development on guesswork. The internal team was too close to the UI to see that 75% of users were getting confused by the draft space within the core flow.

Research

We ran 5 Moderated Usability Studies over GMeet to find behavioural and attitudinal issues with current flow. The participants represented 3 User Personas: The Switcher, The Sceptic and The Impatient that simulated their user base.

Key Findings

  • UI Clutter: 75% of users ignored the primary buttons and tried to use the prompt box for everything, showing that the current UI was confusing users unnecessarily and inflating TTV.

  • The Boost Feature: Every single tester hit a confused silence that broke their momentum right before scheduling the post - the main win!

"I would rather save the $15 and use my Claude Pro for this I want the workflow handed to me on a plate, not to do manual labour." Mathias, Agency Founder (The Impatient)

Design Iterations

Initial ideas focused on adding a side-by-side remix station to stop users' plagiarism anxiety but testing showed users main hurdle was actually editing and posting the content. We stripped the button clutter and pinned the inspiration source next to the draft. This eliminated plagiarism and reduced TTV over 4x from ~4m to under 1.

Impact

  1. TTV decrease: From 4m to <1m

  2. Up to 20% increase in trial-to-paid conversion

  3. Saved the dev team 3-4 weeks of guesswork by providing a validated, ready-to-code design
